The Montessori Method.

The Montessori Method of education was developed by Maria Montessori, an Italian educator and doctor. After many years of observing how young children learn, she came to the conclusion that children experience the excitement of learning by using their hands, making their own choices and by starting young.

She recognized that children absorb many things subconsciously by acting in and responding to their environment.

Montessori materials are specifically designed with self correcting features in order for the child to readily correct his/her own mistakes. They are attractively arranged on open shelves within easy reach of even the smallest child. The materials are sequenced to accommodate a variety of skill levels, starting with the easiest and progressing to the more difficult.

 Maria Montessori believed it to be very important that young children experience success early in life in order to become more confident. The Montessori materials are designed to allow a child to experience this early success.
